What I Do

Medical Illustration is a strange breed: a mix of science, art, medicine, and problem-solving. It is my job to get ideas to make sense visually. Thanks for stopping by!

september art lessons

We have some new dates for September:  the 11th, 18th, and 25th.  Added a younger class too, we now start with 6 year olds!  Hoping for some good turnout and I know it will be a ton of fun.

art lessons

I am going to teach some art again this summer!  I’ve missed it since I closed down my art store, where we did classes, workshops, private lessons and general mess-making.  Time to open up my home and try it out again. Come one, come all!  And please let me know if you have other ideas; […]

drawing blood

blood cells sketch - think I’m going to make some cell biology jewelry.

yay, it’s warm out!

I’ve been gardening!  This year I have all new beds since we’re at a new house with a new-to-us yard.  We’re planting using crazy hippie “organic methods,” but it doesn’t seem so out of the ordinary to me.  Clint and I want to rename it “normal gardening.”

house!

Last night we slept in our new house for the first time! We moved during the day with the help of my friend and co-worker Allison, and the big things are all in their places. The kitchen was the hub of the move and is now full of boxes. I am sore […]

life

Clint and I spent the past week traveling to Sterling, Illinois, to be with his extended family and Grandpa Jack during his last breaths. It was a moving experience and I wish that everybody had a “BDJ” in their family, and knew the closeness that he fostered among all his kids and grandkids.
The world […]

on house-hunting

Saturday Clint and I started looking at houses in person.  We are looking in the area of the new building site for Orthofix  - my company will make the move in 2010 - since I am in love with a short commute.  This is only about 20 miles away from our current location, but it’s […]

on being married

Clint and I were married on September 12!  So far life is amazing and we are very happy.  The only thing I would change is to be retired so we could spend all our waking moments together.  I’m aware of the cheesy factor here, but I can’t help myself!  I’m so lucky to have found […]

Here are some things that make me very happy.

happy father’s day

Thanks to all the fathers out there, especially my Papa.  Thank you for encouraging me.  Thank you for your support even when I wasn’t interested in normal career paths.  Thank you for respecting me as an artist and a quirky drawer-of-body-parts!  Thanks for letting me eat raw spaghetti and marshmallows when Mom wasn’t looking.
